Accumulative Radiation Exposure Concerns and Recommendations

Admittedly, the damage from huge single doses may be greater than the same cumulative dose from many small exposures. But the smaller doses can still add up. Many studies have shown that repeated exposures to low levels of ionizing radiation from CT scans and x-rays can cause cancer.

Remember, the radiation from CT scans and x-rays are external emitters – the radiation emanates from outside the body. In contract, internal emitters keep emitting their radiation inside the body. Therefore, the cumulative effect of multiple small doses of radiation from internal emitters could be even more dramatic, depending on the half life, metabolic pathways and other properties of the particular radioactive particle. Hot Particles are Virtually Undetectable when Inhaled or Swallowed.

The following recommendations, listed as important to very important, was taken from the Radiation Exposure section of the book "Prescription for Nutritional Healing". Many of these items can be available at your local supplement retailer.

Calcium: 1500 mg daily to help prevent the body from absorbing radioactive materials.

Magnesium: 750 mg daily to help prevent the body from absorbing radioactive materials.

Coenzyme Q10: Protects the body from harmful radiation.

Coenzyme A: Supports the immune system and detoxifies the bloodstream.

Glutathione, L-cysteine and L-methionine: 500 mg each daily on an empty stomach with water or juice. Do not take with milk. To detoxify harmful substances and protect against the harmful effects of radiation.

Garlic: Stimulates and protects the immune system.

Selenium: 200 mcg daily. DO NOT EXCEED 40 mcg DAILY IF PREGNANT. A free radical scavenger that protects against cancer.

Pantothenic Acid (B5): 50 mg daily. Protects against the harmful effects of radiation.

Vitamin C / Ascorbic Acid: 5000 - 20,000 mg daily in divided doses. A powerful free radical scavenger.
